Assoc Prof Simon Platt
Associate Professor Simon Platt is a highly experienced Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in foot and ankle injuries for adults and adolescents. He is based at the Gold Coast Private Hospital. He has extensive experience in all aspects of foot and ankle surgery including significant injury and complex reconstruction.
Assoc Prof Platt graduated from Bristol University in 1993, going on to teach anatomy at the University of Liverpool. He commenced his training as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in 1999 and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery (FRCS) in 2004, and became a Member of the Court of Examiners in 2010. Dr Platt became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2019. He was awarded a postgraduate certificate in medical education by Edge Hill University in 2014.
Assoc Prof Platt holds current positions as an Associate Professor at Griffith University, Honorary Adjunct Associate Professor at Bond University, and Senior Staff Specialist – Trauma Orthopaedic Surgery, Specialising in disorders of the foot and ankle, at Gold Coast University Hospital and Health Service.
He has extensive research experience with over 100 accepted abstracts at scientific meetings and over 30 peer reviewed publications. He currently leads a number of research studies including surgical outcomes, the interaction between pain and foot disease and developing the knowledge base on trauma; especially ankle fractures.
With over 15 years’ experience as a foot and ankle specialist, Assoc Prof Platt is knowledgeable in all aspects of foot and ankle surgery including sports injuries, trauma, diabetic foot disease, arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgery. Assoc Prof Platt is open to assessing medical negligence cases.
